Managing Complicated Parents - Basics (Part I)
It’s tough out there; people are carrying around a load of frustration and it’s not only due to political polarization. Unfortunately, a lot of that frustration lands on the doorstep of schools. This workshop frames many different trends impacting school-parent relations and then provides practical guidance on how to lean into the authority you possess as a school leader or faculty member to create an environment more conducive to conflict resolution. Also discussed is how to combine authority with empathy to manage the strong feelings involved in these conflicts, whether they concern “culture war” issues or routine requests that escalate in our current charged environment.
Workshop length: 1 hr 15 minutes, including Q&A
Managing Complicated Parents - Skill Building (Part II)
Build on the framing from Part I and learn more specific techniques and approaches to enhance your ability to resolve complex issues with parents. Scenarios for a variety of situations will be used to help participants learn and then practice skills to effectively and humanely manage conflict, putting the students’ well being and the school’s values at the center.
Workshop length: 1 hr 15 minutes, including Q&A
Part I can be done as a standalone workshop - Part II requires completion of Part I
Both workshops together available as an on-site half day workshop and can be expanded with additional skill-building practice material into a full day workshop or retreat - on-site workshops are designed to be engaging and interactive.
Fees begins at $1500 for each virtual workshop via Zoom
Starting fee includes 30 minute prep call before the workshop
Customization, including development of additional, specific scenarios specific to a school, is available for an additional hourly fee
