Trust, trust, trust. People throw this word around all the time. I throw this word around all the time. It’s the key to leading a better team. It’s the key to a higher performing board. It’s the key to change management.
And of course - it is! But I am beginning to wonder if people get confused about what “trust” actually is and then have trouble building it because we misunderstand how it works, in practice, between human people. I’m still mulling this one over, but I have enough to throw it out there in a Top Five because if we can work on this, it can lead to working out many other complicated problems.
So, let’s unpack the tip of the iceberg on trust!

Trusting someone sometimes gets confused with liking someone
Can you trust someone you really don’t “like” all that much? The answer is yes, however much we may not love that answer and however much it may make for more work on our end to establish and reinforce that trust.
I suspect we often default to trusting people we like, rather than intentionally building it into the relationship.
