About SCS
Stony Creek Strategy’s mission is to support leaders elevating their schools and organizations through leadership development, communications services and strategic planning. We see these three areas as intricately connected. You are the experts about your schools and organizations - we bring outside perspective and thought partnership.
Empathy is a foundational value.
We're living in complicated times. SCS wants to support mission driven people perform complicated jobs - and enjoy getting to know each other along the way.
Informed by Experience
We've ridden the change train in independent schools for over 25 years. Fulfilling a mission is still deeply satisfying work, but there is no question it's gotten more challenging.
Communications is a “rock hard” skill
We appreciate the absolute necessity of a strong communications function to advance a mission. At SCS, this manifests in a commitment to supporting institutions as they develop a 21st century communications and marketing strategy from developing a position description for the director of communications through communications workshops with the senior team and board of trustees.
I want to give a big shout-out to Blazar Design Studio and Betsy Blazar for the warm, place-based and polished brand logo. I keep looking at it because it makes me happy. Betsy and I were colleagues at Walnut Hill and she is a creative and fun collaborator with aesthetics that are just “chef’s kiss.” I also want to thank my shoreline neighbor Ashley Abel for the new headshots. I hate getting my photo taken but I am OK with these. Quite an accomplishment!

Leadership Development Cohort Program for Fall, 2023 - I am pleased to be working with Jane Moulding of SmarterWisdom to offer a small leadership development cohort program for female senior administrators. We already have members committed so click on the link to learn more if you’re interested - we’re capping this program at 8.
Conflict Management/Crisis Prevention Consulting
Presentations and Speaking Engagements
More to come soon under communications offerings. Strategic planning will also be making its debut later this year.
Talking Out of School will continue to publish twice a month and the archive is available to all subscribers. I’m planning to tinker with some of the formatting and provide a guide to posts so it makes it easier to put your hand on that one you might be looking for in particular.
I’ve said it before but it bears repeating - I started this project thinking maybe my sister and a few of my friends would subscribe. Instead, TOOS has led to so many new connections and and opportunities. It was also such a balm to be able to write and connect with others at the end of my dad’s long and wonderful life this winter. He would be thrilled and proud and not at all surprised about the success of this little newsletter because he and my mom always believed in me. They modeled “when in doubt, be a human.” What a gift! - it makes all else possible.
Yours, feeling grateful and lucky and excited for the future -
Julie
