I had a more hectic week than I was expecting - a vet visit I wasn’t planning for, a car repair that was more involved than anticipated - for longer-time subscribers, I am still dealing with some fallout from the October car-stolen-out-of-my-driveway heist! - and some other life stuff that just needed some time being tended to, such as continuing to be on the hunt for eyewear solutions that work for my very nearsighted eyes in reading, distance and Zoom/computer work without causing nuisance headaches. It is proving elusive in deep middle age and the optometrist is kind of treating me like I’m the Princess and the Pea. And persists in not really listening to me, which is not helping. Meanwhile I had to go off camera today during a conversation so the people in the meeting wouldn’t have to look at my nose as I pulled the laptop up to my face to read a doc on a shared screen. I heard a guest on a podcast this morning trail off in a response, unable to be more articulate, concluding, “Nothing feels right these days.” And I think even if the big changes going on in our country feel exciting to you, it is certainly not business as usual. And I for one feel like trying to deal with the detritus of life feels extra hard with a chaotic backdrop.
